THREE SOMMELIERS FROM FERRANDI Paris CAMPUS, SAINT-GRATIEN ARE ON THE PODIUM OF “BEST APPRENTICE OF FRANCE”!
On April 18th, three of our apprentices in MC SOMMELLERIE, on the Saint-Gratien campus, made the podium of the departmental and regional final of the contest "One of the Best Apprentices of France", which took place at CFA Médéric, in the 17th arrondissement of Paris.
Seven tests in 3 hours 30
For our three candidates, Vincent MOSTEFAI (Hotel BURGUNDY - Paris 1st), Nicolas POVES (The Lady of Pic - Paris 1st) and Martin GRILLOT (The Caves of Beauchamp - 95), the day started with a written test, including a questionnaire on oenology and the French vineyard, followed by an oral sensory analysis, and a proposal of food and wine pairings. Then there was a blind trial to recognize various drinks. What next? "We also had a marketing test in French and English" say our three talented apprentices, "we had to present the sales support we had prepared the final test examined general culture". These events required solid theoretical and technical knowledge, a high level of professional know-how and also a good ability to manage stress: "There was a lot of tension during all the events, but it was really very rewarding" reports Vincent, “we realize that we still have a long way to go!”.
FERRANDI Paris aux 3 couleurs du podium
There is still a long way to go, but our three young sommeliers won their place on the podium by winning each a medal: bronze for Martin, silver for Nicolas and gold for Vincent. Vincent will now have the opportunity to distinguish himself in the national final which will take place next October: "I am really happy and proud to have passed this contest," reports Vincent, "I would not have succeeded without the support of my apprenticeship mentor at the Hotel BURGUNDY, who made me work every time I was tired, nor that of Mr MAIGNAN [sommelier trainer at FERRANDI Paris Saint-Gratien], who advised me during all of the preparation time for the contest," he says, with a voice of appreciation, "they helped me to understand my sales support (an original wine list which presented at least 40 references to the main wine regions of France)", adds Vincent, who for several months, has not left his Wine Encyclopedia. A passion? Without a doubt, look at the enthusiasm with which our lucky laureate speaks of his future profession: "We are between the kitchen and the dining room, I always say we are here to sublimate the dishes! In addition, there is so much to discover ... because each wine is unique, each region of France and the world is different! It's a job where you have exceptional moments: when I open a bottle of 1998, from when I was not even born, it makes me feel something anyway! He said emotionally.
This was an excellent event that will be followed next October for the national final!
